Volunteer with StreetVet

Absolutely! StreetVet is a growing charity and we will be launching outreaches in new locations every year so please do check our social channels for updates on where we will be coming to next. We do also have a small number of volunteer roles that support our Central Team with administrative tasks or carrying out hostel visits.

If you are interested in this type of volunteer role, please complete our expression of interest form (located above) and select Support Volunteer for our Central Team. 

As an outreach volunteer, ideally you would be able to volunteer on a regular basis and attend outreach monthly. However, we appreciate this isn’t always possible so we ask that you are able to commit to attending an outreach a minimum of once every two months. This provides consistency for our clients and enables you to build trust with them more quickly.

For non-outreach volunteers, the time commitment will vary and this will be discussed with you during your introductory call. 

Yes, you can sign up to volunteer as an Outreach Support Volunteer whilst you are studying. Once you are qualified, we can change your volunteer role accordingly.

Due to the nature of our set up, we have limited opportunities for corporate volunteering but if your organisation is based near one of our outreach locations, please feel free to get in touch and we will let you know if there are any opportunities your team can get involved in.

If you work in practice, most volunteers are able to use their practice professional indemnity insurance to cover StreetVet volunteering. You will need to ask your practice for permission and StreetVet have a statement from VDS that we can send to you, which provides reassurance to practices regarding allowing employees to use their VDS insurance.  

If your practice is not able to extend your cover or you do not work in practice, then StreetVet can add you to their cover.

In addition to volunteer Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Nurses, we also have our Outreach Support Volunteer role for non-veterinary professionals. The Role Descriptor for this role can be found further up this page. The responsibilities of an Outreach Support Volunteer varies depending on the need of each outreach location.

StreetVet stations usually only last 1-3 hours and therefore unfortunately cannot be counted as EMS.

Due to the nature of our work, and to comply with our public liability insurance requirements, our clinical volunteers need to have their own professional indemnity insurance cover. Unfortunately only qualified vets and nurses are eligible for this cover, so we are unable to allow students to volunteer in a clinical capacity at our stations.

Nonetheless, many student groups have been able to organise fundraising events for StreetVet which helps us expand the services we are able to provide, so that you can hopefully volunteer with us once you graduate!

Students are welcome to apply to become Outreach Support Volunteers until they become qualified and can take on a clinical volunteering role.
