StreetVet London

The very first StreetVet location, launching back in 2016, is now a team of more than 75 volunteer vets, vet nurses and support volunteers all work together to bring StreetVet’s vital work to the city. The team provides free accessible veterinary care to the pets of those experiencing homelessness.

The StreetVet London team is one of StreetVet’s busiest outreach locations and delivers four outreach clinics a month in multiple locations across London. As the longest running team, they have seen a wide range of patients including dogs, cats, small furries and a couple of bearded dragons too! The team has a really strong bond with many of the pets and owners that the team looks after, some of whom have been supported by StreetVet since its beginning.

Through consistent, compassionate veterinary care and support, the team helps protect the vital human–animal bond, enabling those experiencing homelessness with their pets stay together across London.

Volunteers at each outreach location work collaboratively, sharing leadership, tasks, and responsibilities across administration and service delivery to ensure the outreach runs smoothly.

StreetVet London

Each StreetVet outreach team delivers free accessible veterinary care directly into the community. Outreach clinics are held on the streets, in hostels or other homelessness support facilities. Our teams of volunteers take the practice to the pavement, meeting people and pets where they are.

Anything that can be done in a consulting room, our volunteer vets and vet nurses can do at an outreach clinic, helping remove barriers to care while building trust and continuity.

At each outreach clinic, teams may provide:

  • Full health checks and clinical assessments

  • Vaccinations and microchipping

  • Preventative treatments, including flea, worm and parasite control

  • Diagnosis and treatment of illness or injury

  • Dispensing medications and providing follow‑up care

  • Blood sampling, urine testing and basic diagnostic procedures

  • Sampling and monitoring of lumps or wounds

  • Advice, guidance and education to support responsible pet care and ownership

  • Provision of daily pet essentials, including food, coats, collars, leads and toys

  • This outreach based approach ensures pets receive the care they need, in a trusted environment, supporting the wellbeing of both animals and their owners

StreetVet London in action

The StreetVet London team has built strong relationships within the local communities that they operate in. They also have strong relationships with veterinary practices, charities, local authorities, hostels, day centres and homelessness support services across the capital. These partnerships help ensure that those experiencing homelessness with their pets are aware of the support available and can access the care they need. StreetVet also works closely with the Blue Cross, strengthening our ability to provide specialist veterinary treatment, follow-up care and additional support for pets across London when required.

Beyond our outreach work, the StreetVet London team plays an active role in communities across the city, attending events throughout the year to raise awareness of StreetVet's services and generate vital funds to help keep people and their pets together.
