StreetVet's mission is to support the human-animal bond

StreetVet is a national charity helping those experiencing homelessness care for the pets they love.

We provide free, accessible and often essential veterinary care and support to those who need it most.

Volunteer delivered outreach clinics take place in more than 30 locations across the UK: on the street, at a hostel, or working collaboratively with other homelessness support services.

The result is simple but profound: healthier pets, fewer barriers to accessing veterinary care, and more loyal companions kept together.

StreetVet’s mission is simple - to break down barriers to accessing veterinary care for those experiencing homelessness with their pets, whilst keeping pets and their owners together wherever possible, ensuring no one has to choose between a roof over their head and their best friend.

Who we are here for

Navigating homelessness with a pet can make it extremely difficult to access essential veterinary care, despite the strong and often life-changing bonds shared. For many of those experiencing homelessness, their pet is a cherished companion and a vital source of comfort, stability and emotional support, making their pet's health and wellbeing a top priority before their own.

StreetVet provides support to pets and owners living through homelessness together.

We also work with the frontline services, including hostels, day centres, hubs and temporary accommodation providers, helping them become truly pet-inclusive so individuals facing homelessness with a pet can access the shelter and support they need, without losing the animal they love and rely on.

Why it matters

For many of those experiencing homelessness, their pet is far more than a companion – they're family. Some have been together for years, long before homelessness became part of their story, while others have found comfort and companionship in one another during difficult times. Whatever their journey, the bond between those experiencing homelessness and their pets is profound.

Through the toughest of times, pets provide unconditional love, comfort, routine, protection and a sense of purpose.

Yet having a pet can also make it harder to access the support people need. Too often, accommodation and support services are unable to accept animals, forcing people to choose between staying with their pet and seeking help.

StreetVet exists to protect and celebrate this extraordinary bond, and break down barriers that prevent people and their pets from accessing care, support and a brighter future together.

How we do it

StreetVet combines hands-on veterinary care with a system-changing pet-inclusive accreditation scheme, tackling both immediate clinical needs and the wider barriers faced by those experiencing homelessness with a pet.

Our approach is built on trust, clinical excellence and collaboration.

We work hand-in-hand with veterinary partners, councils, hostels, day centres and other homelessness services, as well as other charities and local communities to deliver care and support that is:

  • Accessible - meeting people where they are

  • Compassionate - non-judgemental and relationship focused

  • Practical - designed for real-life circumstances

  • Safe and clinically robust - underpinned by strong safeguarding and governance

  • Collaborative - partnership-led to create lasting impact

Because we don’t just treat the pet, we also help create pathways to stability and wellbeing for the human too.

We deliver free veterinary care  and support through:

  • Volunteer delivered street-level outreach clinics in multiple communities across the UK

  • In-practice clinical support and surgery through trusted veterinary partners

  • Treatment, advice and follow-up that keeps pets healthy and owners reassured

  • Preventative medicine, health checks and vaccinations

  • Provision of food and daily pet essentials

  • Behavioural advice and support

  • Pet owner education

All to keep pets healthy, happy and by their owners side.

We help homelessness services become pet inclusive:

Our StreetVet Accredited Hostel and Day Centre Scheme enables services to welcome pets safely and confidently by providing:

  • Pet-friendly policies and risk assessment tools

  • Bespoke staff training through our e-learning platform

  • Practical support, including access to veterinary care for registered patients, pet food supplies and daily pet essentials

  • Guidance that helps to build confidence and reduce risk for staff and facility users

All helping those experiencing homelessness access accommodation and support services,  without having to give up the pet they love.

Trusted care, compassionate connection

StreetVet is powered by a dedicated staff and  volunteer team, strengthened by partnerships, and guided by a clear belief: the bond between a person and their pet can be a lifeline - and it deserves protection.
