Bringing veterinary care, compassion and connection to people and their pets
Homelessness remains a significant and growing challenge across the UK. We combine hands-on veterinary care with a system-changing approach, supporting pets and owners directly, and helping homelessness services become truly pet inclusive.
Our story
StreetVet was founded on a simple belief: nobody should be denied access to veterinary care for their pet because they are experiencing homelessness.
What began in 2016 with two vets providing veterinary care on the streets of London has grown into a nationwide charity. Up to 25% of those experiencing homelessness — that’s one in four — have a pet. For many, that pet is far more than a companion. They are family, offering comfort, routine, unconditional love and support.
As we listened to the people we met, we saw that access to veterinary care was only part of the challenge. Too often, those experiencing homelessness with pets faced additional barriers to accommodation and support because many services do not welcome animals.
So, we built a service delivery model that works in the real world. Our volunteer veterinary teams take their expertise beyond the consulting room directly onto the pavement, meeting people and pets where they are, providing accessible, trusted care in the communities that need it most.
Working alongside homelessness services and local partners, we're helping to create a future where no one has to choose between their pet and getting the support they need.
How we've grown
StreetVet’s growth has been shaped by need and powered by our small staff team, volunteers, supporters and partners.
From one city to a national footprint: local volunteer teams now deliver outreach clinics in more than 30 communities across the UK.
From treatment to long-term change: StreetVet expanded beyond clinical outreach to help tackle a key barrier to stability - access to pet-inclusive accommodation and services.
From a proven approach to a UK wide movement: each new outreach location builds on a proven blueprint - consistent presence, trusted relationships, and clinically robust care.

Over the next phase of growth, we’re focused on:
Expanding national outreach clinic coverage into more UK towns and cities
Strengthening consistency across all outreach locations through training, governance and shared standards
Growing the StreetVet Accredited Hostel & Day Centre Scheme to remove barriers to accessing pet-inclusive accommodation and homelessness support services
Investing in staff and volunteer development so our teams feel valued, confident, supported and safe in complex environments
Building sustainable funding streams to protect long-term service delivery

StreetVet is built on collaboration. We work alongside organisations that people experiencing homelessness already trust, so support is joined up, accessible and long-lasting.

Homelessness charities and outreach organisations (to reach people where they are)
Hostels, day centres, local councils and temporary accommodation providers (to help them become pet inclusive)
Veterinary Specialists, practices and clinical partners (to facilitate all types of veterinary care when needed)
Corporate partners and foundations (to supply the items we need, and to fund and help scale our impact)
Local community organisations (to support practical needs like pet boarding, transport and a location to hold an outreach clinic)
Other charities (to provide wrap around support and avoid duplication of service delivery)

We use secure digital and cloud-based systems to minimise paper use, reduce waste, and improve operational efficiency.
