Outreach
StreetVet Bristol
The StreetVet Bristol team, supported by veterinary students from the Bristol Paws Project and StreetVet's Clinical and Volunteer teams, deliver at least two outreach clinics a month across the city. Through consistent, compassionate veterinary care and support, the team helps protect the vital human–animal bond, enabling those experiencing homelessness with their pets stay together across Bristol, accessing support when they need it most.
Volunteers at each outreach location work collaboratively, sharing leadership, tasks, and responsibilities across administration and service delivery to ensure the outreach runs smoothly.
What We Do
StreetVet Bristol
Each StreetVet outreach team delivers free accessible veterinary care directly into the community. Outreach clinics are held on the streets, in hostels or other homelessness support facilities. Our teams of volunteers take the practice to the pavement, meeting people and pets where they are.
Anything that can be done in a consulting room, our volunteer vets and vet nurses can do at an outreach clinic, helping remove barriers to care while building trust and continuity.
At each outreach clinic, teams may provide:
Full health checks and clinical assessments
Vaccinations and microchipping
Preventative treatments, including flea, worm and parasite control
Diagnosis and treatment of illness or injury
Dispensing medications and providing follow‑up care
Blood sampling, urine testing and basic diagnostic procedures
Sampling and monitoring of lumps or wounds
Advice, guidance and education to support responsible pet care and ownership
Provision of daily pet essentials, including food, coats, collars, leads and toys
This outreach based approach ensures pets receive the care they need, in a trusted environment, supporting the wellbeing of both animals and their owners
StreetVet Bristol in action
Since launching in 2017, StreetVet Bristol has grown from a small team of just five volunteers to a thriving network of volunteer vets, vet nurses, support volunteers and veterinary students from the Bristol Paws Project, supporting pets across the city. Bristol is now one of StreetVet's busiest locations nationally and works alongside local organisations and businesses to provide free vital veterinary support to the pets of those experiencing homelessness.
